With BMW backed touring cars once more on our shores and BMW offering a free ticket with every race ticket purchased for BMW car drivers, BMW Car Club (GB) had to there! So with short notice, with adverts on the clubs and my web site and my E-News service along with Richard Baxter ( M section chairman ) contacting club members, we had a fine display on Sunday race day.

Selwyn and myself arrived early Saturday, as we have to cross the racetrack before free practice starts. After setting up the clubs area it was time to take a look around the pits. Off course as club members who have visited our events know that the South East Region have a close relationship with AC Schnitzer . The large AC Schnitzer flag that fly’s above the clubs area confirms this. So we head for BMW Team Deutschland, which is run by Schnitzer Motorsport . Team Deutschland cars of Dirk and Jorg Muller, who are not related, were out to impress in their BMW 320i E46 touring cars. This is confirmed as by the end of qualifying Dirk is on Pole.
1987 World Touring Car Champion in a BMW M3 Roberto Ravaglia now runs Ravaglia Motorsport, who run BMW Team Spain, and the mechanics were kept busy as they changed an engine between free practices. With the FIA GT racecars, ETCC Touring cars, TVR Tuscan, Renault Sport Clio, and the Zip Formula race teams all crammed in the paddock area, space was at a premium.
BMW Team Great Britain run by Carly Motors had the Dutch pair of drivers of Tom Cornonel and Duncan Huisman ???
Retired English and successful BMW driver Steve Soper , was commentating on the races.
Alfa Romeo star Fabrizio Giovanardi sealed his third consecutive European touring Car Championship with a fourth place finish in the first of two races at Donington Park.
Pole man Dirk Muller took victory in the race, despite a scare and making contact with Alfa driver Roberto Colciago at the first corner .
After just a 15 minute break for repairs race two got under way. Schnitzer driver and former FIA F3000 champion Jorg Muller took a commanding victory in the second ETCC race. Making it a brace of wins for Schnitzer Motorsport this weekend.
Having been up to second place in race one, dropping down to fifth by the finish, means that due to the first six places being reversed for race two, Jorg started second on the front row of the grid. Behind Jorg Muller, Duncan Huisman and Jordi Gene finished second and third making it a 1,2,3 for BMW.
