The Brooklands to Bentley Run In aid of the Hospice in the Weald

Sunday 1st June 2003

Brooklands to Bentley Run

As you can see from the photographs, there was a good turn out of a mixture of motoring vehicles. We were Luckily the rain did not start until after we had stopped for our picnic lunch at Bewl Water. One surprise was seeing the BMW 315 in the Bentley Motor Museum, and yes the Austin Seven completed the run.

The lunchtime stop was arranged at Bewl Water near Lamberhurst, Kent. On arrival around 1pm, the cars were parked so we could enjoy our picnic lunch. A delicious picnic hamper being pre-ordered and was awaiting our arrival at Bewl Water. During this stop, we handed in our answer sheet of the questions we had to spot the answers as we followed the road book. It was O.K. if you listened to the Archers! Once again a club member came to our rescue. Peter Bond had entered his BMW 635CSI in the run, and he and his navigator knew the answer. Having rested, we set of at 2pm for the second leg of the journey to Bentley Wildfowl and motor Museum near Lewes. At the museum we had a free to tour the many attractions, including a superb collection of gleaming Veteran, Edwardian and Vintage cars and motorcycles. Tea and homemade cakes served in the Tearooms rounded off a great day out.

This was a gentle 103.7 mile run if you followed the route book. Which took place over a set route from Brooklands Motor Museum to Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum near Lewis enjoying the beautiful Kent and Sussex countryside.

The run was in aid of the Hospice in the Weald. The hospice is based in Pembury, near Tunbridge Wells, Kent and they help people with life threatening illnesses throughout Kent and East Sussex.

It costs over £2.4 million per annum to run the various services they provide and as they receive only 8% of that figure from NHS funding, they rely upon the generosity of the community to fund our vital work.

The 60 cars assembled in the Paddock at the famous Brooklands Motor Museum in Weybridge, Surrey. Registration is in the historic Shell petrol station pagoda in the Paddock whilst refreshments were taken in the restored clubhouse. After a look around The Brooklands Museum we set off at 10am to hopefully meet up with our picnic lunch at Bewl Water.
