2004 SE Concours

South East Region Concours, Held at KM Motoring Pageant

The Hop Farm , Paddock Wood, Kent.   3rd / 4th July 2004

For the second year the South East Region Concours was held at the very popular KM Motoring Pageant held at the Hop Farm Country Park, Paddock Wood, Kent.

We arrived on Friday afternoon to set up our club area; Geoff Price from the organising Transtar Promotions had arranged that we were in pole position, as our stand was the first club spectators see as they come into the Car Club area. In between the showers our display area came together and we had the bunting and metal stakes pegged out to mark our large area.

Saturday is normally a quieter day at the event. It gave us time to look around the Auto Jumble stalls and  dealership areas, Hop Farm, and watch some of the professional shows in the main arena. At 2.30pm we were invited into the other club arena to promote the BMW Car Club and members were asked talk about their cars. The interviewer explained that we were the largest club display to enter the ring that day (16 BMW’s). I explained that tomorrow, with good weather we should have over 60 cars on our stand. Richard Stern, 02 registers Chairman gave a description of his car and about the register, explaining how to get parts etc. Then we had fun, as Rob Parkin explained the story behind how he finally received his beloved E32 7 series from Len. Len who was sitting in the passenger seat had given Rob the car! Parked next to him was another E32 7 series and the owner also had been given the car! E21 register Chairman Iain Thomson explained his E21 BMW, Then as club member Graham was looking into the M roadster, the interviewer asked him what is knows about the car, he replied nothing, as his car was the 850CSI next to it which he jokingly said he had given him, and the M roaster was Tony’s. Tony explained about his car then it was onto the two 850CSIs, Graham explained that the only difference was his had the Motorsport body kit fitted. Both owners had only had the BMW’s less than six months. Once we had moved back to our stand, time to check out the other car clubs stands.

Sunday display , time to clean the BMW!

Sunday, being concours day started early as cars started to arrive, Tony and myself marshaled the cars into our area, and soon we were wondering if the light showers had put off the club members. As the dead line of 11am came near we had had lines of BMW’s awaiting to enter our stand, and soon we were hoping the area was big enough!

11.30am the judging started and as you can see from the photographs, our judging team of Barry, Glen, Rob and Tony had their work cut out. We were hoping that at 2.30pm we would again be asked to display our BMW’s in the club arena again, but we were informed that as we went in on Saturday, would not be allowed in on the Sunday. A mental note as been made that at next year’s event we will not do the Saturday if we cannot do the Sunday, when most of our club members attend the event.

Judging was finished around 3pm and the prize giving started just after that. Once again the standard of cars presented was very high and the points were close. Glen began by thanking the club members who made the effort to support the region at this event even though the weather was not our usual sunshine. After the club members had collected there Trophies it was time for Pauline to start the raffle, which this year did not take all evening, as if you won you took the prize “no putting it back in”.
