The event took take place over the May Holiday 29/30th/31st May 2004

ENFIELD PAGEANT of MOTORING

29/30th/31st May 2004

The only trouble is that the pictures do not do justice to the size of this very well EDVVT organised massive show. To give you flavourer of the event, besides over 80 car club stands to stroll around, you could spend 4hrs just picking your way through the Auto-Jumble stalls. The Fun fair including the Wall of Death motorbike ride, kept the children occupied. And last but not least the Traction steam engines made a wonderful sight, sound and smell.

The organisers also had entertainment on until around 1pm for those who were camping over night. The theme of the two live groups was “Rock and Roll”, and yes, there was plenty of “DADS dancing” going on!

On the main sponsors stand (Classic Car Mart), BMW was well represented with two BMW Isetta’s . They were on the stand to show how the metal fabrication firm, who gave demonstrations throughout the event, the before and after treatment. Also on the stand was club members Ian Howcroft 2000cs for sale. The price tag of £10,000 seemed a little over priced when you compared the £7.500 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow against the BMW.

One way to encourage the visitors in to our area was to open a bonnet, and we soon had people peering in on Richards’s 2002Tii and Tony’s ZM engine bays.

As you can see from the photographs above we not only had a fine display of BMWs on our stand, but also the club members took up all our chairs! I would like to thank those club members who turned up over the event days. We had five no shows over the two days, most were due to car trouble “the ultimate driving machine”? Apart from the South East Committee member’s cars, we had David Whites E34 530i V8 on display both days, John and Sue Payne brought along his rare M3 GT; also they gave a hand to dismantle the stand at the end of the event, thanks to you both. Mike Charman brought along his 2002 Touring and Jacqui Garman arrived in the M6. Richard Stern brought his rare M5 on Sunday and his 2002Tii lux on the Monday, along with Peter Armstrong’s 2002 and Robert Lamprell’s 2002. Keith Manager’s E46 M3 was the only BMW in current production on the Monday display. So with our BMW’s E30, E32, E34, E36’s and Tony’s new purchase, a ZM roadster, we had a fine display of BMWs on show. Once again many thanks to all club members who gave up their Bank holiday to help out and display their cars at this event.

This year was the first time that the BMW Car Club South East region had a stand at The Enfield Pageant of Motoring held at the Playing fields, Great Cambridge Road, Enfield , Middlesex. The event is orgainised by the Enfield & District Veteran Vehicle Trust and is in the 27th year . Once again this year the sponsor of the Pageant was Classic Car Mart.

Our thanks go to Pauline Wells for not only keeping us watered, and fetching the water (well it did warm her up) during the weekend. But also for making up the flower displays we had on our stand. All that hard work was put into perspective when a young girl with her family, as they walked past, stopped looked at the flowers and turn around and said to her mother " mummy who died and is buried here". So from now, the flowers and BMW Parking signs have become known as the "Headstone" of our display. Thanks also to Selwyn Frostick for purchasing the Blue and White bunting, and to Glen Wells for the 10pm printing of the BMW Roundel and South East Region stickers for the bunting. With all this preparation we must be in with a chance of winning one of the prizes on offer for best stand, sadly we did not, but it was noted that the winners were the same as last year!
