2004 The Guards Polo Club
Our thanks go to all the club members who turned up at the event, and to the South East Region sponsor, Chandlers, Hailsham, BMW Dealership (Tel: 01323 844032)Mr David Reidy for the Raffle prizes.

For the second year the BMW Car Club (GB) were asked to have a display at the last match of the Polo season held at The Guards Polo Club, held on the impressive venue of Smiths Lawn, Queens Ground, Great Windsor Park.
The Polo matches held were the Final of The Kerry Packer Trophy and Subsidiary Final Kerry Packer Trophy. The matches did not start until 3pm on the Sunday afternoon, so it gave members time to have a good chat and natter as they had their picnics.
Mr David Reidy from Chandlers, Hailsham, BMW Dealership had donated some raffle prizes, the two 1:18 scale BMW Z4 and 5 series models being just two of the prizes on offer. At 2.30pm, the Raffle was drawn by, Pauline Wells, just before the opening polo match. Club member Dave Hopper ( 7 series Alpina) was once again in luck as he won the Z4 model, at our SE concourse at the Hop Farm he won the Teddy bear!
Committee member Tony Calvert, had once again arranged for some of the Z register members to attend the event, and the different colours on the Z’s made an exciting display. Club member Magnus McDowall had arranged for a fine display of BMW Csi’s and Richard Stern 02 Chairman, also had some fellow 2002-register members join us. So our South East Region policy, to try and make the club events enjoyed by all club members is working well.

Before each match started we had the Guards Army Band play in the riders, and after the fourth Chukkas (end of match 1), the public were invited to go stomping on the field to replace the grass where the ponies had cut up the ground. Making sure the mound you are going to stamp on is earth and not what the ponies had left behind. During this time the mounted umpires stayed on the pitch, and also the Guards band played while marching up and down the field. Spectators took this opportunity to pat the ponies or have their picture taken by the band. During the second match Selwyn gave us his interpretation of the rules of polo (we did not take them as fact). The event finished at 5.30pm
