BMW Club Europa meeting
Vosges 2006
44th BMW Club Europa meeting Vosges 2006: Saulxures-sur-Moselotte
France: 8th to 11th June 2006 - Jean Pierre Goy displays
Within seconds Jean-Pierre has the bike on the back wheel with the front end pointed straight toward the sky and a huge smile coming from his open-face helmet as he waves on the way by. The knowing BMW crowd gave him a loud applause. He is now in full swing. A long series of incredible stand-up rear wheelies, and front wheel wheelies, sliding turns, again just missing the barrier every time. The bike disappears in a cloud of tyre smoke, pulling one amazing stunt after the other before screaming toward the barrier, throwing the bike into a huge sideways slide, flipping the back end around through 90 degrees and then dropping it onto the metal stand, forever the show man he missed the stand, off he roars and what seems like a impossible speed he once again heads towards the barrier, again throwing the bike into a huge sideways slide, flipping the back end around through 90 degrees and successfully dropping it onto the metal stand, Springing off, J.P. bows to his audience. He then goes into the crowd and pulls out an unsuspecting BCE member for his next wheelies displays. He shows his passenger no mercy and the front wheel is once again heading towards the sun, then it’s the rear wheel floating in the air. Next on his agenda, the man on the mike is given a bottle of water and told to hold it out. Once again at full chat, J.P races up to him, takes the bottle from him then does a wheelie while standing on the BMW motorbike seat and still drinking the water! At the end of the display he rightly received a long applause from BCE members.
A World Stunt Champion, the French stunt ace is the one rider that all other motorcycle stunt performers want to emulate. If his world championship status isn’t enough then mention the James Bond films and everyone sits up and takes notice. The producers of 007 movies won’t film a stunt unless it is highly original and the most spectacular of its type – ever. Remember, Tomorrow Never Dies and one stunt in particular – Jean-Pierre Goy was the rider that jumped across rooftops and leaping over the lethally spinning blades of a helicopter on a BMW R1200 C cruiser (yes, cruiser!).
The sound of a BMW engine heralds Jean-Pierre Goy's entrance. J P Goy is also a showman; he skids to a halt, leaps off his bike and greets the crowd with a wave, and a smile. Jumping back on the BMW, he blasts off down the tarmac with the bike seemingly out of control. His repeated attempts to wheelie the bike only raise the front wheel about a foot from the floor, and it seems as if one of the world's best stunt riders is struggling to get it up. Then it seems as if he's going to run out of room at the end of the car park, he brakes and broadsides the bike and missies the metal barrier by inches, and the crowd jump back!
J.P Goy is well known in the motorbike stunt arena. Born in France, Jean-Pierre Goy began riding trials bikes at age 16, and this extremely technical discipline has given him an almost psychic understanding of motorcycle balance. After riding for the Fantic Motor team for many years in indoor trials, Jean-Pierre retired from competition to pursue a career in stunt riding. Many world records followed, including the longest wheelie ever recorded prior to 2000, only 137 miles!
