29th Enfield Pageant of Motoring
27/28/29th May 2006
I arrived early Saturday morning and find our club area and park up and place a South East Region Banner , so other club members could easily find our stand area. But while waiting for Selwyn to turn up (who is towing the SE caravan). He telephones me and informs me that he is in the car park and they are not letting in large vehicles until 10am.
So walking up the main gate I talk to Steve Brayshaw (Chairman of EDVVS). He reports that there is a meeting with his team and the Enfield council to see if the event will still be held.
Normal club cars were allowed in, but larger vehicles were stopped in the main car park awaiting the decision from the meeting. While waiting we talk with another exhibitor who has come all the way from Ireland for the event, 10am came and we are informed that no large vehicles will not be allowed on until Sunday morning if the rain keeps off.
So we quickly decide to park up the caravan in the corner of the car park along side others who are waiting until Sunday. Breakfast was soon on, and during Saturday we walk around the show.
The rain held off until the afternoon, we are informed another meeting will be held at 8am Sunday. So we stay overnight in car park. Sunday morning dawned and the sun was shinning , but the ground was still cut up from the vehicles that left Saturday night who were not staying until the Bank Holiday Monday. As you can see from the pictures, even the efforts of the orgainsiers who spred out tons of wood chippings over the muddy areas, the out come of the 8am meeting was foregone "Cancellation of the Show". Once it was confirmed we packed up and telephoned club members and advised them not to turn up. It's a shame the event was cancelled, as this is the main revenue collecting event for the Whitewebbs Museum of Transport run by the EDVVS so funds will be short for 2006.
With a hosepipe ban in the South East, it was with regret that The 29th Enfield Pageant of Motoring and Collectors Bazaar being held over the May Bank holiday weekend 27/28/29th May had to cancel due to the RAIN on the Sunday.
