SOUTH EAST REGION COMMITTEE MEMBERS RECEIVE BMWCC BRONZE PINS at NATIONAL AGM - 13TH MAY 2006
held at THE NATIONAL MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM
2006 National AGM
The National Motorcycle Museum is recognised as the finest and largest motorcycle museum in the world.
It is a place where ‘Legends Live On’ and it is a tribute to and a living record of this once great British industry that dominated world markets for some sixty years. In a society that is quick to lose its appreciation of the inherent skills and industry of this nation, the Museum records for posterity the engineering achievements of the last century. It is a place where an older generation can once again view with nostalgia the machines they rode in days gone by, and younger generations can study the development of the motorcycle from its earlier days to the golden years of the 1930s-60s, when British motorcycles ‘ruled the world’.
On 16 th September 2003 , the museum suffered a devastating fire, resulting in damage to 75% of the structure and some 400 machines. Due to the determination of ownership, staff and contractors, the museum doors re-opened on 1st December 2004 .
John Safe and Peter Rust vice presidents of the BMW Car Club (GB) presented the BMWCC Bronze Pins on be-half of the National Committee.
Recipients of the BMW Car Club (GB) Bronze Pins awarded were:
Pauline Wells, a posthumous award for Glen Wells South East Region Chairman from 2004 to 2005.
Barry Gordge, club member from 1993 and South East Region Chairman for 4years from 1996 when a whole new committee was formed as the region nearly collapsed.
Selwyn Frostick, club member from 1992 and joined the South East Region committee in 1996, being the regions Treasurer and as he likes to be known the “general dogs body”
And myself (Melvyn Pettit) club member from 1984 and committee member from the 1996, Chairman from to 2005 to present day.
As usual Selwyn never makes anything straightforward, and on the day with Pauline and Sarah Wells also in his car, he travelled from his home in Dorking to Bolton to look at a BMW 7 series to purchase. After making his choice of the two cars on offer (straight 6 or V8 engine) Selwyn purchased the Straight 6, as it had cruise control. Left his car their and would travel up by train the next day to collect it. Then drove his new pride and joy to the AGM. But due to being diverted off the M6 because of a jack-knifed lorry, which cost him over an hour delay, he just made it to the National Motorcycle Museum in time for the pin awards.
On be-half of Pauline, Barry, Selwyn and myself we would like to thank the National Committee for recognizing the hard work that goes on in the back ground that keeps the region active on the events front.
The South East Region Committee members travelled up to the National Motorcycle Museum for the BMW Car Club National AGM. Some members of the South East Region were their not only to keep up with BMWCC news, but also to receive the BMW Car Club Bronze Pin being presented to them for recognition of the work they do for the BMWCC.
The pins were presented after the BMW Car Club (GB) national AGM meeting was completed and the goods news from the AGM, the club is still moving forward. One of the main goals of the club to have a monthly magazine was achieved in 2006. National Chairman Jeff Heywood also reported another aim for the club to own their own club office building, is one step further forward.
