2007 MOTORING PAGEANT- THE HOP FARM , KENT

30/1st JULY  ( WINNERS AGAIN) Report By Melvyn Pettit

07 South East Concours

I am once again proud to report that the South East Region BMW Car Club display won “Best Presented Club” trophy for the second year running!

Well done all.

I have to thank all the club members who ignored the weather and still brought their pride and joy to the Motoring Pageant at the Hop Farm Country Park, Paddock Wood, Kent, on the Saturday and Sunday 1st July.

On Saturday with the rain persisting it down. The organizers still put on the arena displays. The Moto-Stunts International team still preformed an excellent show on the wet grass arena. “Haurel & Lardy” kept the kids entertained. They also did the shows on Sunday. The change to the arena programme was that the invited car clubs would not take their cars into the arena, as this would churn up the display fields to much. So the announcer came around to each attending club and invited someone to talk about the club and cars etc. As the radio microphone would not work at our display, due being out off its range, under his large golf umbrella I accompanied him to the arena. After giving my answers and information relating to the South East Region and the BMW Car Club, he said many thanks and walked off. Leaving me to run for cover under the nearest tree!

This year seems to be the rain affected event year, with the rain still falling on Sunday at 11am, which should have been the start time for the South East Region Concours; the judges took the decision not hold this year South East Region Concours.

However, due the dedication and determination of our Concours entrants we decided to reward them by doing a Show and Shine in the rain!

The judges, Barry Gordge, Dave Brentnall, Selwyn Frostick, and Tony Calvert joined by me award up to 25pts each to each BMW on display. So with the total 100 pts per car.

So in between the showers the result was:

1st in Show and Shine - Gordon Hyam - E30 (who also took the furthest travelled trophy with 135miles).

2nd in Show and Shine - Michael Johnson (last year’s class winner 8 series)

3rd in Show and Shine - Wayne Morley - an AC Schnitzer WTCC livery M3.

One set of the THWAITES MOT and Service centre Ltd, Unit 1, William Street Trading Estate, William Street, Portslade, West Sussex. BN41 1PZ. Telephone: 01273 430303 sponsored Trophies were presented by birthday girl Sarah Wells, (21). We first met Sarah along with Glen and Pauline Wells at their first BMWCC event, which was our SE Concours at Danson Park when she was an innocent 14year old! Now look at her. Then our Chairman Barry Gordge press-ganged her to give away the trophies, as I did on Sunday. However, before she started I gave her our birthday “joke present“, Baby doll outfit and Handcuffs!

11-year-old Ryan won the model Z4 model in the Raffle, he had wanted it all day.

Last, but most certainly not lease. I must once again thank all the club members who came along, as I am once again proud to report that the South East Region BMW Car Club display won “Best Presented Club” trophy for the second year running! Well done all.

So the thank-you’s:

Tony Calvert, judging, but also for arranging the sponsorship and production of the trophies. THWAITES MOT and Service centre Ltd for the trophy sponsorship. Our thanks to Gordon Hyam for donating the model BMW Z4 to the raffle. Pauline Wells, Selwyn Frostick for Raffle prize donations and judging, Sarah Wells for presenting the trophies and of course the rest of our judges, Barry Gordge, Dave Brentnall.
