On the 31st October 2009 “Halloween Night” there were not only “trick and treaters” out and about. The BMW Car Club (GB) - South East Region members turned the local monthly Maidstone pub meeting at The Wateringbury into “Selwyn’s 70th Birthday Bash”
Selwyn Frostick joined the club in 1992, and from that time on he has always been an active BMWCC member. He joined the South East Region committee as treasurer, the post he still hold to this day.
Selwyn’s BMW 2002Tii Touring returning from the 2000 BMW Club Europa meeting, Chamonix- Mont Blanc, France.
The night started with Selwyn arriving dressed up for Halloween “I’ve spent two days doing this walking stick” he stated. The fun and amusement kept up all evening as the speech’s and Champagne flowed. He did have a bit of trouble blowing out all those candle’s!
Club members Marie and Dave sorted out the cake and birthday card with a photograph of Selwyn and his 02 Touring on the front, and a picture of him “just resting my eyes” inside. Some of the his presents were: With donations from club members I had arranged for some BMW parts vouchers (he always needs parts for the 02). My personal gift was a few books from the “Grumpy Old Men” series! Jeff Howe (Parts Manager) presented Selwyn with a BMW Fountain Pen gift box from BMW Dealership Broad Oak, Canterbury.
Selwyn’s first BMW was a Isetta in the seventies. He has lost count the number of BMW vehicles he has owned. His present my daily car is a E36 Touring. He best describes himself as “the regions dogs-body, doing anything that needs to be done."
When the South East Region had a caravan for events, he would not only store it, but would tow it to events with his 1987 BMW E28. His 1979 BMW E21 had over 300,000 miles on the clock when sold. But as many club members will know, and the French motorway break down service can verify! His BMW passion is the “BMW 2002Tii Touring”. “Betsy his baby”, The 1972 White BMW 2002Tii Touring not only attended many club events in England, it was mostly known for attending BMW Club Europa meetings in Europe. Plus many of the 02 European meetings. He also has the pleasure of knowing that the front of the car is pictured on BMW AG "The BMW Museum Living history" CD, clubs section. Sadly now on the Automobile scrapheap. But his passion lives on in Betsy’s replacement, a Blue 1972 BMW 2000Tii Touring.
