The BMW Car Club
of Great Britain
In 1952 Ralph Hewitt placed an advertisement in the “Autocar” magazine seeking persons interested in a club for BMW cars. Little did he realise the impact of this advert. Officially endorsed by BMW (UK) Limited , the Club has grown substantially since those early days and offers a range of events and activities for all owners and enthusiasts of BMW cars. Run by members for members, the various divisions, registers and regions within the club cater for all BMW models old and new.
The Club is divided into “Regions” each with their own committee and these regions organise dozens of different events to suit the tastes of members within the particular region.
In addition to these there are specialist registers which look after individual models or ranges of cars. These include the Historic Register, The 02 Register, dedicated to the 02 series, one for owners of the famous CSL models, an M Power Section, Coupe register and a 7 series Register.
A national committee, made up from volunteers within the regions, oversees the Club office and the finances. The Club publishes a magazine for members, which contains reports on events and many other interesting features.
In addition to the magazine, Car Club members can also access information about the Club and its associates on the Internet.
This lists all the future events and is packed with information about the club and the registers and regions. It also has links to a variety of international club sites and official BMW sites both in the UK and abroad. On a regular basis the regional and national committees combine to hold major events for all members, and sister clubs such as the Isetta Club and BMW Motorcycle Club are invited to attend. These include an annual Concours d’Elegance and Oktoberfest, an event which combines all areas of the club in a biennial festival of BMW vehicles.
