BMW CAR CLUB - CENTREPOINT

A REPORT FROM NATIONAL COMMITTEE MEETING

No 161 - 1st July 2007 -  Issue 38

National Festival 2007

Things are building up nicely for this years National Festival – advanced ticket sales are going very well, Nick Whale BMW have kindly sponsored the marquee again, with sponsorship supplied by John Drake for the Concours and Meguiars for the Show & Shine.

Marshals – we need to make it quite clear that every regional and register display needs at least two people in attendance until all parking spaces are filled – we also need extra marshals to man the parking in general areas like show and shine etc – A big thank you here to all the Scottish guys who have offered their help on the Sunday morning – it is much appreciated and more help would be most welcome from the rest of our regions and registers.

Bimmerfest – new venue - Stoneleigh

We have decided to move the Indoor ‘Bimmerfest’ to Stoneleigh after conducting a thorough site visit – the hall we will be using is 50% larger, which means more room for everyone! The hall also has better lighting, heating, toilet facilities and far superior catering outlets. We also have use of 600 undercover security patrolled parking spots for club members.

AGM 2008

Next years AGM will take place at Duxford Imperial War Museum, Cambridgeshire  - date TBC.

2006 Mondello Park track day

For 8 months following the event in April 2006 the Club had been trying to recover a large sum of money from the organiser of the 2006 Mondello Track Day event. As this had not been received at the end of the Clubs financial year (31st December 2006) this loss was reported in the Annual Accounts. After 15 months of strenuous efforts by club officials the sum of £1,400 of members' money has now been recovered.

BMW Clubs Europa (BCE) – Latest update

We have now submitted a constitution from the Federation of European BMW Clubs (FEBC – of which we are one of the founding members) to the International Council that we hope will be ratified and signed off at their next meeting in September. If they agree to our constitution we will fully withdraw from BCE and form a new umbrella in Europe called (obviously) the FEBC.

The FEBC will consist of (to start with) of the BMW (bike) Club GB, BMW Car Club GB, the Swedish Car and Bike clubs, ditto Danish and Norwegian clubs and possibly the Finnish clubs. We will keep you posted as to future developments.

Directors Roles & Responsibilities

The board is currently putting together a plan to give each board member a role within the club i.e Regional Liaison Officer, Register Liaison Officer etc. Once these have been fully formalised we will bring you a full list and the roles these positions will play.

Elections of Directors

Thanks to the hard work of our Company Secretary, we are also putting together some documents that will act as a guideline when electing a director to the board or for any member who wished to apply for a place on the board. Again, more will follow when we finalise the documents.

Z Register

There has been a number of complaints regarding the apparent dormancy of the Z Register, with nothing happening in the club magazine etc. the board has approached the present chairman of the register who is in the process of stepping down from the role and have asked if he will organise an AGM for the register where a new committee can be elected.

New Historic Club

As many of you already know, a new Historic Club has been formed by some members from our own Historic Section. This move has been passed by the BMW International Council, much to our disgust at the decision. We will now assist the committee of the Historic Section to re-launch the section in the coming months. One decision that has been made is to allow all cars 35 years or older to join the Historic Section – this is a rolling age limit. We must stress that this decision hasn’t been made to ‘steal’ cars from other registers… it just allows owners of a classic BMW over 35 years old to now register their car with the section – before the limit was loosely set pre-1965…

Delegates Day

By the time you receive this Centrepoint you will already have received an updated list of questions posed/answered from the Club Secretary from the delegates day – I think everyone who attended found the meeting useful and we look forward to the second meeting in 2008!

New Marquee

The board voted in favour to purchase a ‘push-up’ marquee at a cost of approx £850. The marquee will have a blue and white roof, the frame consists of a really strong 55mm hexagonal section aluminium framework and can be erected in 2 minutes, dimensions are 6x3m and it comes with a full parts back-up service. The marquee will be first seen at Stoneleigh and will be stored at the club office.
