A REPORT FROM NATIONAL COMMITTEE MEETING

No 163 - 18th November 2007 -  Issue 40

Bimmerfest – Shakedown

First of all, please let me point out that many enjoyed the show so it wasn’t all doom and gloom. The show itself has more or less broke even, so there is no cost implication to club members.

Criticisms:

1 - Too hard to find/poorly located in comparison with Donington.

2 – Not enough traders present – mainly down to trade obtaining their custom via their websites

3 – A number of complaints that people where getting in for free – this is something we have complained to the event team at Stoneleigh because the doors leading into the exhibition hall stay open if pushed back (mostly by people going outside for a cigarette), which therefore let quite a number of people in for free before we tackled the problem. These doors also serve as fire exits so we cannot shut them off or lock them.

4 – Same cars on display – you will always find the same ‘best cars’ appearing at different shows like Gaydon etc.

5 – Poor signage to the hall & car parking once on site

The committee has taken these points on board and discussed at length the solutions/alternatives etc. We have now placed as an agenda item for the Natcom meeting in January “Do we go ahead with another Indoor BMW Festival in 2008?” A decision will then be made at this meeting if we are to go ahead with the Indoor Festival and at what venue – Any feedback before then relating to Bimmerfest would be much appreciated.

BMW Clubs Europa (BCE) – Latest updat

We have now officially broken away from BCE and become fully-fledged members of the Federation of European BMW Clubs (FEBC). FEBC has been officially recognised by the International Council of BMW Clubs (ICBC). The ICBC is the controlling body of all official BMW clubs worldwide. Our FEBC representative Peter Rust will provide a full report that will be printed in the January magazine which explains the background to what has been happening with our breakaway from BCE etc.

AGM 2008

Next years AGM will take place at Duxford Imperial War Museum, Cambridgeshire  - date TBC.

E30 Register

We have great pleasure in announcing that Neil McDonald has taken over as Chairman of the register, with Steve Bostock acting as Vice Chairman. Neil will look after the southern-based E30 matters and Steve the North.

New Modified Section

We are also proud to announce that we have given the go ahead for Kos Loizou to set up a Section for Modified BMW’s. Kos has vast contacts in the world of modified BM’s and he thinks he can attract many to the club from the likes of performance BMW who have been reluctant to join the club in the past. There is a write up in December’s club magazine covering the new Section.

Risk Assessment

A risk assessment document will be made available on the clubs website in the members only section for club officials to download or view to use as a template or just information if they are asked to provide a risk assessment at a show. Under no circumstances must the document be used as YOUR risk assessment as it may not cover any relevant points at your show – it is for guidance only. There will also be a blank risk assessment form that you can download and complete.

Directors Roles & Responsibilities

The two most important positions have now been filled. Andy McArthur is to look after the Registers as the Register Liaison Officer, and Ross Harris is to look after the Regions. Darren Webster has also agreed to take over as the clubs librarian/archivist.

Z Register

Phil Rosenbloom has agreed to take over as Chairman of the Z Register. An AGM will be arranged in 2008.

New Marquee

The club now has a large 20’ x 10’ ‘push-up’ marquee finished in navy blue and white that is available for members to use at events, but it will require picking up from the club office. The club also has two substantial x 20’ x 10’ standard white marquees with 50mm tubular poles that are also available.

National Concours 2008

The National Committee agreed for the National Concours to be held away from Gaydon in 2008, and it will now take place in the stunning setting of Waddesdon Manor on Sunday 20th July 2008 on the main driveway in front of the impressive ‘Chateau’. A budget for the event was put forward to the National Committee to consider at this meeting and a reply has gone back to the Concours Committee.

Concours Sponsorship

We have received offers from two companies to sponsor the concours in 2008. We will now go back to the companies and see what sort of sponsorship they have in mind.
