A REPORT FROM NATIONAL COMMITTEE MEETING

No 167 - 6th July 2008 -  Issue 44

Amended Club Rules & Articles of Association

David Marsh, the clubs Company Secretary has gathered together all the comments sent to him by a small number of club members and will now undertake to do a complete review of the articles/rules, taking into account the issues raised.

Delegates Day – List of BMW Specialists

The clubs IT problems will hopefully be resolved by the end of July when we can then upload the list of regional specialists for you and our members to view – in the meantime, if you can all start to put together a list of specialists then that would be a great help in getting this benefit to members off the ground quite quickly once my ‘template’ has been approved and uploaded onto the clubs website.

National Festival 10/8/08

Only five weeks to go now, so don’t forget to ‘push’ the event in your regional news in the club magazine and to book your regional stand space and tickets – only pre-booked tickets can be guaranteed a parking spot on the tarmac apron near to the museum. The same goes for the Aston Martin test track rides – we cannot guarantee that there will be any slots left on the day, so please book your place now and urge your members to book there’s a well.

Membership Numbers

The club has seen a steady and worrying decline in membership numbers during 2008. A high percentage of the decline can be attributed to the financial climate the country finds itself in when the first things to go when people are tightening their belts are luxury items, subscriptions to magazines and all sorts of clubs inc Car Clubs. It has even been reported that many people are now leaving their cars in the garage due to the price of fuel and finding other ways of getting to work etc, so expect smaller attendances at events etc as members start to pick and choose which events they want to really attend and those they have now chose to miss.

We do operate a “ring round” of club members who don’t renew, and Gerry in the club office manages to convince 2-25% of those contacted to renew immediately, with another 11% saying they will renew. We are now going to target those 11% to make sure we keep them in the fold, and the 17% who we don’t manage to contact.

It is encouraging that only 6% of those contacted say they didn’t get anything out of the club or were not happy, whilst the biggest ‘non-renewers’ are people who have “sold their car” or for “financial reasons”.
